Real Estate in East Baton Rouge, Ascension and Livingston Parish Louisiana

Although many areas, including some in Louisiana, are suffering in the current real estate market, Prairieville, Louisiana real estate, and in fact almost all real estate in the part of Louisiana, is still doing quite well.

Prairieville is an expanding bedroom suburb of Baton Rouge. Its name comes from the once plentiful pastures and prairies that were visible from Highway 73 (Jefferson Hwy.) and U.S. 61 Airline Highway which is now covered with development. Prairieville started off as a quiet community with few people.

In recent decades, Prairieville has benefited from immigration out of Baton Rouge, with new residents particularly drawn to the area by its high-performing public schools and low crime rate. Prairieville had an official 2010 census population of 26,895 inhabitants. If it incorporated it would be the largest city in Ascension Parish. Prairieville is in one of the fastest growing areas in Louisiana. Prairieville's population is bigger than the Parish's two largest incorporated cities, Donaldsonville (7,436) and Gonzales (9,781) together. The largest city in the area by far is Baton Rouge with a population of 229,553 according to the 2010 census. It is also home to Louisiana State University, better known as LSU./

In the 2000s, Baton Rouge has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the South in terms of technology. Baton Rouge's population temporarily exploded after Hurricane Katrina, as it accepted as many as 200,000 displaced residents. Metropolitan Baton Rouge is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the U.S. (under 1 million), with 602,894 in 2000 and 802,484 people as of the 2010 census. Some estimates indicate that the Baton Rouge metro area could reach 900,000 residents as soon as 2013. The city has a vibrant mix of the cultures found throughout Louisiana, from which it developed its motto: "Authentic Louisiana at every turn".

College sports play a major role in the culture of Baton Rouge. The LSU Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars are the two most popular teams and provide the city's biggest entertainment during football season. The LSU Tigers have achieved several national championship titles in various sports, including football and baseball. The teams' dominance of the city's sports scene is evidenced by the numerous shops and restaurants around town that sell and display memorabilia. College baseball, basketball and gymnastics are also popular.

Buying and selling real estate in East Baton Rouge, Ascension and Livingston Parish Louisiana condos and homes is the most important investment decision you will ever make.
